NUTRITIONAL TREATMENT FOR WEIGHT LOSS

Sometimes it can be hard to know what the right foods are to eat for weight loss. We offer nutritional and dietary advice to guide you to achieving wellness.

Our Clinical Dietitians will work with you to create bespoke meal plans for long-term weight loss, based on your health status, food preferences and lifestyle.

Dietitian sessions include reviewing your weight loss journey and nutritional status, and designing a personalised and structured plan that can help you lose weight whilst improving the balance of nutrients in your body.

Our Nutritional Therapists can support you by looking at the body as a whole system, investigating any underlying nutritional imbalances and making nutritional recommendations to optimise your health.

Nutritional Therapists can use detailed Functional Testing to investigate imbalances, which may be holding you back from achieving your weight loss goals.

There are several variables that can contribute to weight gain as illustrated in the diagram below. Let us work with you to help you understand and address your barriers to weight loss.

PURCHASING NUTRITION CONSULTATIONS

Start with a complimentary 15-minute phone call

It is important we take the time to find out why you are contacting us, and what outcomes you are looking for from nutritional therapy.

Our assessment calls are a relaxed way to ‘meet’ your practitioner, and help us match our treatment and support to your specific needs.

Your practitioner can answer any questions you have, and help you prepare for your initial session with them.

You can book in for your initial session, and then work through our intake forms so you get the most value for your time with your practitioner.

All of our initial consultations last 90 minutes

The initial 90-minute session includes a 75-minute consultation, and 15-minutes for creating an in-session treatment plan for you to take away.

You will then agree the frequency of your follow-up sessions with your practitioner.

These may vary in length of 90, 60 or 40 minutes, depending on your treatment goals, the frequency of your sessions, and if any diagnostic tests require analysis and explanation.

Combining nutritional coaching with psychological support

Many of our clients feel they need some support in changing their mindset and emotional connection with food, while at the same time creating healthy nutrition and lifestyle habits.

Our Integrate Package combines nutrition coaching with psychological support, to help you make this weight loss journey different.

FACTORS TO CONSIDER WITH WEIGHT LOSS

Every person has their own unique history with weight loss, and individual concerns that need addressing.

Our experience tells us that the following areas are important to explore with all of our clients who wish to lose weight.

Balancing Hormones

Weight gain can be influenced by hormonal imbalances due to factors such as chronic stress or menopause.

High levels of oestrogen in the body can play a role in insulin resistance, rising blood glucose levels and weight gain.

Low levels of oestrogen can also cause a very stubborn type of weight gain that often happens during the menopausal period. The ovarian cells no longer produce oestrogen, so the body starts looking for oestrogen elsewhere. One source is fat cells. The body may start converting extra energy sources into fat, leading to weight gain, particularly in the lower body.

High levels of cortisol can lead to hyperinsulinemia, increased fat deposits and fat cell maturation, which can all lead to added weight on your body.

The thyroid gland is part of the body’s hormonal system and has the main job of regulating metabolism – the rate at which we produce and use energy in the body. Thyroid hormones help stimulate different metabolic functions in the cells, regulate body temperature, help provide energy and contribute to optimal weight maintenance.

If there is an underproduction of thyroid hormones (hypothyroidism) this can affect many different body functions, and weight gain is a common symptom.

Balancing Blood Glucose

The level of glucose (sugar) in the blood is carefully controlled by a hormone called insulin. When blood glucose levels rise after eating, insulin is released to bring levels back down to ‘normal.’

When your blood glucose levels rise too rapidly, the body responds by releasing excess amounts of insulin. This causes blood glucose levels to swing back low again, making us feel tired, grumpy and once again, hungry. We call this ‘blood sugar imbalance.’

If your blood glucose is constantly imbalanced, the body starts to ignore the messages given by insulin, a condition called ‘insulin resistance.’ This leads to blood glucose levels remaining high, which is a strong driver of weight gain.

Improving Sleep

The less you sleep, the more likely you are to eat.  In addition, your body becomes unable to manage those calories as effectively, especially the concentrations of glucose in your blood.

Research has shown far higher rates of Type 2 Diabetes among individuals that reported sleeping less than six hours a night routinely.

When your sleep becomes short, you gain weight. Poor sleep affects the effectiveness of our satiety hormone ‘leptin’ and our hunger hormone ‘ghrelin.’

Inadequate sleep decreases levels of leptin, and increases levels of ghrelin, so if you’re short on sleep you can feel less satisfied by the food you are eating, which affects your overall hunger control.

It also affects what you choose to eat and often results in a craving for sweets, carbohydrate-rich snacks and salty snacks. Less appealing are the healthier proteins and essential fats.

Making it even worse, when you are sleep-deprived you may have less energy to move, and become more sedentary.
