Dr Alex Wickham BSc (Hons)

Alex Wickham is a Consultant Anaesthetist at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, working at St Mary’s and Hammersmith Hospitals. His regularly provides anaesthesia for patients having major trauma, vascular, upper gastrointestinal, general and gynaecological surgery. He delivers a pre-assessment clinic for vascular patients, working with them to optimise their complex medical conditions ahead of major surgery.

He passed his undergraduate medical degree with distinction and subsequently trained in the Imperial School of Anaesthesia in London, gaining experience at multiple renowned hospitals. He is a happy ‘generalist’, proficient in all aspects of anaesthetic practice. He particularly enjoys managing the perioperative care of people with complex metabolic conditions such as diabetes and older patients.

He runs the Imperial Trauma Team Member course, is an Advanced Life Support Instructor and teaches on the Imperial Human Factors Course, aiming to improve how teams’ function in the clinical environment. He leads and collaborates in multicentre quality improvement and research projects aiming to improve both patient safety and experience. He is an educational supervisor for trainee anaesthetists, supervises medical student projects, has published work in peer reviewed journals and has also authored several book chapters.
